KRA Dive FAQs

My child is a little apprehensive about joining. How much experience do they need?

None! If they can jump off the board and swim to the side unassisted, sign them up! Joining the team is a great way for new divers to learn how to dive and experienced divers to build on their existing skills. Our practices are organized by age and experience level so that the coaches are able to zero in on each diver’s individual needs. We even host a home “Cupcake Meet” during the season for new divers who maybe aren’t ready to compete at a formal event but want to see how a meet works.

What are the age groups?

  • Mini-mites: 7 and under
  • Mites: 8 and 9
  • Midis: 10 and 11
  • Juniors: 12 and 13
  • Intermediates: 14 and 15
  • Seniors: 16 through 18

I registered my child for swim so… we probably can’t also dive, right?  Your child totally CAN do both! We love that crossover so much that we’ve planned a dive practice schedule that does not overlap with swim practice to allow them to do both and even offer a price break for those who register for both.

The meet situation sounds impossible. Aren’t they long? And in the middle of a weekday? Yes. That’s true. Most of the meets are on Thursday afternoons from about 1-5. But we’ve got the meet thing down to a pretty good science- if your child is placed in a meet, we’ll let you know early in the week and, the night before, will send an estimate for each age group’s time on deck. For all meets, kids warm up at KRA the morning of the meet and then you can plan your arrival at the actual competition for the estimated time your child will compete. For away meets, our team will have an additional warmup at the away pool at 12pm.
