Association Management

Director
Tom Hoy
Tom has been with Kanawha for more than 40 years, having started as a lifeguard in 1980. After teaching math and coaching several sports for 46 years (37 of them at Godwin HS), Tom is enjoying retirement, doing some tutoring, traveling, and spending more time at Kanawha. Tom and his wife, Kathy, have 5 children and 9 grandchildren.

Assistant Director
Martha Hodges

Martha started at Kanawha in 1981, lifeguarding to supplement her teacher’s salary – and aside from a 6-year stint working at a local country club, she’s been with KRA ever since! Martha taught special education at Tuckahoe Middle School for the last 25 years of her 31-year teaching career, and also coached tennis, track, and gymnastics – and she still coaches both girls’ and boy’s tennis at TMS.

Assistant Director
Chip Carter
Chip has been an Assistant Director at Kanawha for 15 years. After 41 years of teaching (the last 23 at Godwin HS), Chip retired from Henrico County Public Schools in 2023. At Godwin, Chip taught English and Journalism, served as the English Department Chairman and school newspaper advisor, and also coached basketball. Chip and his wife, Terri, have 2 daughters, a grandson and a granddaughter.

Board of Directors

The KRA board is made up of volunteer members serving three-year terms. We meet every month (typically on the 3rd Thursday) throughout the year to discuss ongoing issues, programs, facility maintenance, and long-term planning.

We welcome your involvement and input as we strive to keep our recreation association thriving.
