KRA has a team for everyone from beginners to those who played in college, so come join the fun!

Kanawha offers USTA teams, a Kanawha Flex League, Suburban Women’s teams (weekday mornings) and a Saturday Men’s Racquet League. We are always adding teams, so in no way is the list all inclusive. For information on any team, please contact the captain/Coordinator.

USTA Teams

USTA teams are organized for spring, summer and fall seasons and are formed according to member interest and the willingness of volunteer captains. We generally have Women’s teams, Men’s Teams, Singles, Combo and Mixed teams at different levels. Each team has its own calendar season and they all differ.

To play on an USTA team you must be a member of the USTA. You can register to be a member by going to the USTA website: www.usta.com. You must pay to become a USTA member and pay to be on a particular USTA team. (These fees are paid directly to the USTA). After you have become a USTA member, you can form your own KRA USTA team (with coordinator approval) or contact a current KRA USTA team captain to see if you can play on their team. As a USTA member/player you will be given a rating. This rating qualifies you to participate on certain teams. There are different levels such as 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, etc. The beginner level is generally 2.5 and 4.0 is typically more experienced players. There are different types of teams, such as singles, doubles, mixed and combo USTA Teams. Each of these types of teams has a season. Some USTA teams play on weekends, some play on weekday evenings, and some play on weekday afternoons. You can visit the local USTA website for more info.

If you are a KRA member, and you wish to captain a USTA team, you must contact Scott Mitchell and Martha Hodges before you register the team. We need to be sure there are not multiple teams who are requesting to play on the same day and time so that there is court space for everyone.

Please contact Travis Miller, Scott Mitchell, or Martha Hodges for information about Kanawha’s adult teams.

KRA Tennis Guest Policy

Any non-KRA member playing on a KRA team will be required to pay a $25 non-member guest fee. This will cover all home matches and any practice matches during that team’s season. It is the captain’s responsibility to collect the fee and submit to Martha. (All teams playing out of KRA must be captained by a KRA member.) All members of the Ladies Suburban League teams MUST BE Kanawha members. This is a Suburban League rule.

During pool season, any non-member playing social tennis should pay the daily guest fee of $5 at the pool sign in gate.  Guests are required to be playing with a member and are limited to one visit per week (for social tennis, team matches and practices are not counted).
Non-members will also be assessed an additional $5 fee for lessons and clinics.

Adult Team Guidelines

  1. At least 50% of the members of the team must be KRA members. For the ladies suburban league, all players must be KRA members. This is a suburban league rule.
  2. All non-KRA members must pay a $25 fee to KRA. Each captain must collect the non-member fees and turn them in to Martha Hodges.
  3. All team captains and co-captains must be KRA members. If neither the captain nor the co-captain is available for a home match, the substitute captain must be a KRA member.
  4. All home match schedules must be sent to Martha Hodges as soon as they are received so that courts can be reserved in advance. In case of rainouts, please communicate with Martha about possible make-up dates.

Men’s Racquet League

Men’s Racquet League offers players of all different levels to play on the same team.  KRA now has 1 RRL team, which is open to men who are 3.0 and above.  This team plays every Saturday morning at 8:30 AM in the spring.

Captain:  Jason Fenchuk

Ladies’ Daytime Suburban

All matches are held from 9:30-1:00PM on their established match weekday. There are seven matches in the fall and seven matches in the spring. If you are considering joining a team, contact the captain and ask to jump into a practice! C3 is our beginner team and A4 is our highest level Ladies Suburban Team.  For more information on any team or identifying the best team for you, please contact Suburban Coordinator Chandra Pounders or the Director of Tennis, Scott Mitchell.
