General Use
- All persons using the pool or pool areas do so at their own risk
- The Association assumes no responsibility for the protection of valuables or personal property
Use of Specific Pool Facilities
- No diving is permitted in the L Pool
- The waterslide must be used feet first – sliding headfirst is not permitted
- Lap swimmers have priority use of lap lanes when the lane markers are up
- Use of the starting blocks is only permitted during swim team activities
- Use of diving boards
- Only one person on a board at a time
- Do not go off the side of the board
- Do not hang off the board
- Divers are limited to one bounce
- Do not swim in front of or under the boards
- Use of goggles is not permitted in the dive well
Lifeguard duties and authority
- Lifeguard(s) must be on duty in the lifeguard chair and the pool officially open before anyone is allowed in the water
- Lifeguards will supervise the pools (except the Baby Pool) and have authority to enforce all rules. Individuals may be barred from the pool or pool areas, at the discretion of the lifeguards and/or management in charge, for violation of pool rules.
- Lifeguards may require a test of any person entering deep water to show their ability to swim. If such test is not passed to the satisfaction of the lifeguard, entry into the deep water will be prohibited.
- In emergency situations, the pool(s) may be cleared. The signal for clearing the pool is three blasts from the lifeguard’s whistle
- Lifeguards or the Association Director have the authority to close the pools in the interest of safety in case of adverse weather conditions
- No one is to engage in conversation with a lifeguard while he or she is on duty or to congregate around the lifeguard stands
Pool Use by Children
- Non-swimmers are not permitted in the Lap Pool or Diving Well
- After 5pm daily, all persons under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian present at Kanawha
- Children under the age of six may use the Baby Pool only when accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their safety at all times
- Non-swimmers are allowed in the L Pool but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their safety at all times. The parent or guardian must be in the water and within arm’s reach. A non-swimmer is anyone who cannot swim the width of the pool without stopping.
- Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper when using any pool
- Running, pushing and horseplay are prohibited in the pool and pool areas
Use of swim aids and equipment
- Standard life vests and Puddle Jumpers are the only approved swimming aids and are only permitted in the L Pool.
- Fins, snorkels and face masks are not permitted in any pool.
- Toys are not allowed in the Lap Pool and Diving Well. Tennis balls are not allowed in any pool
Prohibited Items
- Glass containers are not allowed in or around the pools or tennis courts
- Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is prohibited on Kanawha property
- Alcohol is not allowed at Kanawha when the pool is open
- Dogs are not allowed inside the pool or tennis perimeter
Guests and Membership
- The daily fee for use of all facilities including pools and tennis courts is $5.00 per guest. Houseguests living outside a 25-mile radius may visit daily during their stay, while local residents may not be a guest more often than once per calendar week.
- Only members whose dues are paid in full and their guests may use the facilities
- A family membership includes only those residing in the household
